3 Features I Love To Include On Client Sites
As a Squarespace web designer, I always strive to streamline my client processes and make things easier for both parties. In this article, I’ll give you a sneak peek into an ongoing client project and share three features that I find particularly useful when working on client websites.
Sandbox page:
In the “Not Linked” section of the Pages menu, I create a Sandbox page where clients can experiment and test out different website elements without worrying about breaking anything on their live pages.
To create this page, I use code to remove the header and footer, and include a variety of sections like Fluid Engine, Classic Editor, Auto Layout List, and sometimes a Gallery Section.
It’s important to remember to hide this page from search engines in the page settings so that it remains private.
The Sandbox page is a great way to give clients a sense of confidence and familiarity before they start making changes to public-facing content.
Customized Help page:
In the “Not Linked” section of the Pages menu, I also create a Customized Help page that is hidden from search engines.
This page includes short, customized videos that demonstrate specific tasks like adding a blog post or using accordion blocks.
These videos are tailored to each client’s specific needs and are much more effective than a generic video library.
The Customized Help page also serves as a backup for custom code on the site, as well as a resource for style information, support information, post-launch SEO best practices, and details on how to book additional support after the included post-launch support period ends.
Saved Sections:
Squarespace is rolling out a feature at the end of 2022 called Saved Sections, which allows you to create a library of reusable sections for your website.
As a Circle member, I have access to 50 spots in my Saved Sections library, which I use to back up the most important or hard-to-recreate sections of the website. This serves as a “fail-safe” for both myself and the client.
Additionally, as a Circle member, I have a six-month trial period during which I can keep a free backup of the website JUST IN CASE my client should ever need it.
These are just a few of the things I do to make my clients’ experience as smooth and stress-free as possible. I hope these tips are helpful to you as well!
